What’s behind the new developments at CARRIDA?

To explain the new features and demonstrate their practical benefits, our Head of Sales, Kay Henry Mann, answers the most frequently asked questions and provides some background information.

Kay Henry, in the last newsletter we introduced our new Plate-i Plus product family. This was influenced by customer feedback. Which typical project requirements have you integrated into the new camera family?

Feedback from our customers revealed clear requirements, which we specifically implemented in the Plate-i Plus family:

  • High performance at a lower entry price:
The aim was to develop a product family that operates at the usual high-performance level but is available at a lower entry price. The Plate-i Plus can be used to cover demanding access scenarios – both free-flow and barrier solutions – while keeping entry costs low.

  • Advanced identification features for access control:
In many projects, simple license plate recognition is no longer sufficient. In addition to the license plate, additional vehicle features such as vehicle type, make & model and color are also recognized. The key factor is that these features are processed in parallel on the Plate-i Plus.

Kay Henry’s takeaway?
Plate-i Plus closes the gap between barrier access control and moderate free-flow — without over-engineering the solution.

CARRIDA 5 was recently introduced. CARRIDA 5.1 is next. What does version 5.1 offer and why was it necessary from a project perspective?

With CARRIDA 5, we have completely converted our software to the latest deep learning algorithms, both for license plate recognition and for other vehicle attributes. Previously, the recognized license plates and vehicle characteristics were output as separate datasets.

CARRIDA 5.1 shifts the linking of license plates and vehicle attributes to the recognition process itself. The output is a structured, related dataset: a combined annotation.

Kay Henry’s takeaway?
With 5.1 you get one structured, combined result. No manual matching in the target system — simpler integration, fewer mismatches.

The combined annotation of license plates and vehicle attributes is a key feature of CARRIDA 5.1. Why is this more than just a technical detail?

Because this changes the structure of the recognition and the data output. Previously, license plates and vehicle attributes were recognized separately and displayed as separate results. The connection between them then had to be established in the customer's target system.

With 5.1 license plates and the associated vehicle attributes are already output as logically linked annotations. The assignment is thus already clearly defined in the recognition process and does not have to be created afterwards.

A concrete example from practice:
A license plate is approved, but only in connection with a specific vehicle type. If the license plate is used on another vehicle, it will not be approved.

This increases security because access authorization is no longer based on separate individual pieces of information.

Kay Henry’s takeaway?
With combined annotations, license plate and vehicle attributes come as one linked result — fewer edge cases, less mismatch risk.

You will be at Intertraffic Amsterdam from 10 to 13 March – what can visitors expect at your booth?

At booth 01.530, we will be giving a live demonstration of our CARRIDA cameras, including the new Plate-i Plus family.

Jan-Erik Schmitt, Wilhelm Scheermann and I will be there and look forward to talking to you in person about projects.

Come by for a delicious coffee.
